Please accept my condolence and sympathies for this unbearable loss. Although Mr. Jay Emerson Thors passing brought a huge grievance for you, please remember that you are not alone in this testing time.
As a regular caregiver of Mr. Thors, I will always miss him because of his many best qualities. He was kind and generous man and I was blessed to work for him. At that time, I had never thought that we would develop such a strong connection that leads to friendship, it was very rare to come across people who make amazing friend. We shared a good friendly relationship and I had many memorable moments shared with him. He loves his family so much and very happy especially when his daughter and sons from out of state visiting him for days. He was full of life and had a hope to live more.
He fought against his illness with bravery and I saw him mustering up the courage even in the last few days of his life. I also admire how he searched for all the available options and went for the best one because he wanted to live. Jay Thors was a great human being.
He will always be in my prayers and memories

I first met Jay after he and Lourdes decided to light their house on fire. No, I wasn’t part of the fire department. After learning about the blaze, I sent money to help the unknown homeowners. A few weeks later, I was surprised to get a gracious thank you note along with the return of my $100 contribution. Thus began a wonderful friendship.
At the time we met, I aspired to make the N.Y. Times bestseller list. Although I found success at the Times, it was the (now) Tampa Bay Times. Jay took an interest in my writing and I shared manuscripts of mine with him. He offered valuable feedback and I loved that we had this connection.
In time, Jay and Lourdes offered their wonderful hospitality to me and my wife, Barbara. They were known for serving a hearty paella accompanied by some “kick ass” sangria. We invited them whenever we had a party and they fit in effortlessly with whatever cards were dealt from our deck of friends. It didn’t take long to know Lourdes was his soulmate and his children and grandchildren meant the world to him.
As social as they both were, I especially enjoyed my occasional one on one visits with Jay. Well, I should say visits with Jay and his dogs. He was so modest about his tennis skills, travels and many accomplishments. He took a genuine interest in my life as well as parole status. I did my best to get a laugh out of him with my annual, sarcastic Christmas cards. He would reply with something just as good, if not better. One of his specialties was to call pretending to be some literary agent or even a resource to help with my obvious insanity.
Jay never bought in to the pretentiousness of his prep school classmates. That spoke volumes to me about his character. I also learned from him what a fighter does to survive. Jay fought and survived many health battles. His grit and determination ensured he got the most out of life. He remains a role model to me about how to age well. Stay active, be kind, feed your mind, have a sense of humor and never say die.

I was blessed to work for and with Jay for most of my many decades in financial services. We were together at three different brokerage firms. In fact Jay taught me the bond business. Fortunately, for us, we became personal friends as well long ago and our families intertwined at celebrations over the years.
Family was always first for Lourdes and Jay. In business integrity as well as hard work were his modus operandi and the customer came first always. He also did it with style and grace. (His wry sense of humor put an exclamation point on it.) These are traits of the Thors, father, Jay, and Barry.
He was a loyal, true friend in good times and bad, personally and professionally.
Connie and I will miss Jay as we do Lourdes. He and his family enriched ours. We recall many great moments with them over the years.
We send our love to the Thors family and rejoice that Lourdes and Jay are together again. We miss them greatly but are grateful their children and grandchildrem will continue to enhance the world in their legacy.
