A resident of Wesley Chapel, Florida, and formerly of Henderson, Maryland died peacefully on January 8, 2021. Debby was born on July 2, 1950, in Winston, Kentucky to parents Tracy and Yvonne Dunaway, and grew up in the Tampa area. At age 18 she took a secretarial position with the FBI and moved to Washington DC. It was there that she met her husband, Wayne Dant, who predeceased her in 2017 after 47 years of marriage. Debby worked as an administrative assistant at the University of Maryland Wye Research and Education Center in Queenstown, Maryland until her retirement in 2018.
Debby had a beautifully contagious laugh and loved to spread joy to everyone around her. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her beloved family, dear friends, and loyal four-legged companion, her dog Trixie. She was a fantastic cook, an accomplished gardener, and had a beautiful singing voice which she loved to put to good use. A dedicated servant of Christ, Debby was always willing to use her talents to help others. She volunteered with hospice, often cooked meals for neighbors in need, and even spent a great portion of the last 9 months sewing and donating face masks.
Debby is survived by her son Paul Dant and his partner Samantha, son Jeffrey Dant and his wife Shannon, the littlest loves of her life, her grandchildren James and Hayes, sister Judy Tillack and her husband Jack, sister Diane Tuliano and her husband Steve, brothers Meredith Dunaway and Jeff Brookshire, sister Lauren Myhre, and sister in law Judy Smith.
A memorial service will be held this summer when it’s safe to gather.
