Obituary of John Vernon Pinney

John Vernon Pinney passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday morning at the age of 55. He is survived by his two daughters, Holly (Brett) and Kiera, and five older siblings: Dawn, Debbie (Tom), Nanciann, Doug (Lisa) and Dave (Nancy)

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Beverly Pinney, his oldest brother Mike, and his brother-in-law, Gary (Dawn).

A lover of the outdoors, John served as Park Ranger at Chain O’ Lakes State Park in Indiana before beginning his lengthy career with Duke Energy. In 2017, John was the recipient of the prestigious James B. Duke award.

John was an accomplished sportsman who traveled the country to hunt and fish. When not entertaining friends at his home, he enjoyed boating in the gulf and taking care of his dog, Delilah.

John was extremely proud of his two daughters. When he became a grandfather in 2019 his granddaughter, Sawyer, quickly became a great joy in his life.

John was a friend to all who will be remembered for his joking good nature, love for his family, eccentric taste for music and energy for life.

A celebration of John’s life will be held this Saturday, February 6th, from 4-6pm at The Club at Cheval.

Anyone who wishes to honor John V. Pinney, is requested to please donate to the Hillsborough County Animal Shelter.
