Obituary of Adelaide "Adie" Ellen Oehlsen

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day."

Author unknown

On January 18, 2021, Adelaide "Adie" Ellen Oehlsen, beloved wife of Henry, of Land O' Lakes, Florida passed away peacefully in her sleep. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey November 1, 1932, she was the loving daughter of Thomas and Ella Concannon.

After graduating from Red Bank Catholic High School she met the love of her life, Henry while he was stationed at Fort Monmouth Air Base with the United States Air Force. She often recalled it was love at first sight and she was "going to hang on to this catch". They married on September 6, 1952, and celebrated 68 years years of marriage in 2020. Being a military wife, they traveled to different areas of the country and world which may have kindled their love to travel together always. They were rarely apart. Upon Henry's retirement from the military, they settled in Jarrettsville, Maryland and her love of animals brought her to become employed for 16 years at Jarrettsville Veterinary Clinic. During these years she was also an active member of the Jarrettsville Ladies Auxillary Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed weekends at their camper. Following her retirement, the empty nester moved to Sebring, Florida where she volunteered her time helping others at Florida Hospital Heartland and St. Cloud Hospital. Well, as the saying goes, "a rolling stone gathers no moss" they once again journeyed from Florida to Ander5son, South Carolina which became their center ground between children and grandchildren in Florida, Maryland, Idaho, and Las Vegas. Throughout all these moves she easily made and maintained many friendships as her door was always open for family and friends and you were sure to be greeted with a smile, a drink, and most certainly something sweet.

She was the devoted mother to Henry Oehlsen and Janell of Mountain Home, Idaho, Linda Simpson and John of Jarrettsville, Maryland, Thomas Oehlsen and Dottie of Bel Air, Maryland, Steven Oehlsen and Dana of Hampstead, Maryland and Kathy Giffing and Rany of Land O' Lakes, Florida. She was a cherished grandmother to Jennifer, Henry, Raymond, and wife Michele, Amanda and husband Damien, Jonathan, Christina Cynthia, Angela, Kevin, Daniel, Emily and Nicholas, and wife Jackie, and a proud great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren. Nieces, Nephews, extended family, and friends across the country will miss her enormously.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Concannon of New Jersey, and granddaughter Jennifer Shiffrar of Las Vegas, Nevada.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
