Alice Coe Davis, 86, of Tampa, FL went to her eternal home in Heaven Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
Born March 5, 1934 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Faith (Frazier) and Dana Coe, she was the youngest of three children. She is survived by her three children, Steve Crider (Annette), Cathy Crider Atchison (Tom), and Julie Crider Aman (Jeff), and her step-son, Kyle Davis (Anna); her ten grandchildren (Julianne, Jenna, Kelsey, Kolby, Jared, Sara, Danielle, Joshua, Elizabeth and Kyle Jr) and ten great-grandchildren.
Alice spent her childhood days in Lakeland, FL where she graduated from Lakeland HS a year early as Salutatorian. In 1951 she entered the University of Florida with the unique distinction of joining one of the first coed classes and where she was a sister in Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She married John Crider in June after she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education. Her first teaching assignment was with kindergarteners outside Gainesville at a rural elementary school. She worked hard as a teacher as John went through UF law school.
Their son Stephen was born during this time. In the next four years daughters Catherine & Julie arrived as the family settled in Jacksonville.
Always one to devote her life to others, Alice was a stay-at-home mother who became a full time working single parent.
She did her work with all her heart for the American Cancer Society, the Gulf Coast Lung Association & the Pinellas County Health Department.
She was a woman of deep faith in Jesus Christ, and served her church, Palma Ceia Presbyterian in Tampa, on the Session & for many years in the Choir. One of the highlights of her life was when she and other choir members sang in the Billy Graham Crusade Choir in 1979 at Tampa Stadium.
She also volunteered many years for the Judeo-Christian Health Clinic to help indigent residents who lack resources for their health care needs.
In 1982 she was given a second chance at love when she married Tom Davis, originally of Lake Wales, FL.
They spent 34 years together - cheering for the Gators at their home games, going on many cruises, traveling abroad to England, Ireland, Russia, Hawaii, and dancing whenever their music was played!
For the last 16 years Alice struggled with Alzheimer’s Disease. While Dementia limited her activities, it never changed her happy & outgoing spirit. Many thanks to her family at Arden Courts of Tampa for loving her and keeping her connected to her extended family during the Pandemic through many FaceTime calls.
Alice was greatly loved by her family and friends. Losing her leaves a deep void in all of our lives.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 9 from 10-10:45 am at Loyless Funeral Home 5310 Land O'Lakes Blvd. Land O'Lakes, Florida 34639 with a Funeral Service to follow at the funeral home at 11 o'clock am.
